The following images depict model or civilized work unit plaques displayed at the entrances of businesses. The first two images were taken at a porcelain workshop in Jingdezhen, Jiangxi province, while the other images were taken in Shanghai.

In various locations at various times, award systems have provided “incentive” mechanisms in the promotion of spiritual civilization. Official recognition for civilized behaviours and practices have come in the form of the conferring of an award or status as a “civilized employee” (wenming zhigong), “New Wind Family” (xinfenghu), “Five Goods Family” (wuhao jiating), “civilized townsfolk” (wenming shimin), “civilized private vendor” (wenming geti gongshanghu), “civilized streets” (wenming jiedao), “civilized work unit” (wenming danwei) or “civilized district” (wenming xiaoqu).
