The propaganda machinery of the Chinese state has emerged as an enduring force in the production of messages within contemporary China - despite decades of capitalist reform. This is due largely to an adaptation of the signs and symbols of the ruling Chinese Communist Party to the new advertising industry and media of the reform era.The Party's messages are now being tested internationally in Beijing's increasing projection of soft power.
