This series of images was photographed along the entrance drive to a residential compound off Taiping Road, Shawo, in Beijing's Haidian district, just inside the Fourth Ring Road (W).
These posters share strong thematic and stylistic commonalities. Thematically, they reflect official narratives of 'civilization' and 'harmonious society', focusing on familial, environmental and lifestyle themes. Stylistically, they each adhere to a blue-green, 'heaven and earth' structure, reinforcing their thematic preoccupation with idealized harmony and balance.
Contextually, these dozen or so posters line each side of the driveway to a residential compound, creating a concentrated visual mnemonic for the residents who pass by daily.
